We start things off with a video package of the Cruiserweight championship match from Super Show-Down in Australia last weekend, where Buddy Murphy put the 'Age of Alexander' to rest in his hometown, ending Cedric Alexander's reign of 181 days.
It is announced that Cedric Alexander has challenged Buddy Murphy's training partner, Tony Nese, to a match tonight after his gloating on social media about the Australians win over him. That should be good...
LIO RUSH OPEN CHALLENGE
I love that Rush is wearing Bobby Lashley's shirt. What a promoter! Rush says that any moment is a possibility to make someone famous, and that is what he is here to do today. It's an opportunity of a lifetime to prove him wrong that he is the man of the hour...
Lince Dorado answers the challenge!
- Brilliant athleticism to start with both matching each other move for move.
- 'OK, this guy is good' jokes Rush.
- Tilt the whirl followed by a rigor mortis pin from Dorado. Love that.
- Rush hits a lope on Dorado AT PACE.
- Chest rake/back rake combo. Not your average 205 move from Rush!
- Lio Rush mocks Dorado
- Rush tries to unmask Dorado just like TJP did.
- Dorado comes back with a dropkick, spinning heel kick and big chop.
- Lince hits a frog cross body!
- Rush hits a twisting impaler! That is a new move to me!
- Dorado rolls out of the way, stopping Rush from hitting the Final Hour frogsplash.
- Dorado rolls up Rush for two.
- Lince hits a lethal injection stunner! Rush wisely rolls out of the ring.
- But Dorado does an insane looking dive straight onto him over the top rope!
- Dorado goes to the top rope.
- Maria Kanellis appears on stage distracting Dorado.
- Mike Kanellis then shoves him off the top rope and kicks his ass.
- Cross Rhodes and then Mr and Mrs Kanellis stand over Dorado and kiss.
- That match took a while to get going, but was on its way to being a banger when Mike and Maria cause the DQ loss for Rush. His first defeat on the 205 Live brand. I assume we now get some kind of TJP, Kanellis and Rush v Lucha Dragons six man tag which I am fully behind. Mike Kanellis looks in great shape and I hope he does well on his new brand as his WWE career has been a dud so far.
BUDDY MURPHY INTERVIEW
Buddy has decided to stay in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia. Because he does what he wants, when he wants and will return to 205 Live when HE is ready... we then go backstage where Cedric is talking to Mustafa Ali.
Ali says he has just come from Drake Maverick's office, who let him know his rematch against Hideo Itami is going to be falls count anywhere. Mustafa doesn't leave, because he wants to tell Alexander that he has just come back from Australia and the match against Tony Nese tonight may come too soon. His mind can't be in the right spot.
Alexander stops him saying that all he needs to do is get back in the ring and do what he does best, then win back his Cruiserweight Championship. Ali says OK, but his face says otherwise.
This makes perfect sense as it shows the heart and determination of Alexander, the brash character of Murphy and the friendly advice of Ali - who came back too early himself months back - and paid for it. Good stuff.
DREW GULAK & JACK GALLAGHER BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW
We get a recap of Gulak and Gallagher turning on Brian Kendrick for showing mercy and being weak.
Gallagher says he was sentimental - he used to look at Kendrick as the champion he was but he lost his way. Gulak adds he lost his killer instinct and they won't allow weakness from stopping them landing their goals. Next week, they take out another thorn in their side in trying to create a better 205 - Akira Tozawa.
This was short and simple with a verbal explanation for their actions in removing Brian Kendrick from their group. It also promotes next week's match between Drew Gulak and Akira Tozawa. I'm assuming we will be seeing THE Brian Kendrick at some point there...
CEDRIC ALEXANDER v TONY NESE
Tony Nese comes out showing off his sculpted body as you hear women scream. Rick Rude would be proud. We are reminded that Alexander lost his first singles match in over a year last weekend and had to travel thousands of miles to even appear for this match, unlike Buddy Murphy who stayed at home.
- Alexander is one step ahead to begin
- Nese ducks a clothesline with a matrix nip-up, starjumps and a bicep pose. Wow, what a talented douche.
- Alexander responds with a stiff dropkick. Deserved.
- Cedric lays some boots in on Nese and grabs his hair. Hmm. Attitude change?
- Nese kicks Alexander in the back as Cedric screams in pain.
- Commentary point out there is no way Alexander is at 100%.
- Nese intercepts a running Alexander with a bulldozing elbow.
- Nese works over the back and ribs whilst saying 'How does it feel to be former champion?'
- Knees up on Nese as he goes for a springboard moonsault.
- Springboard flatliner! Nese rolls to the outside.
- Cedric WIPES OUT Nese with an over the top rope cannonball.
- Springboard clothesline by Alexander.
- The pair exchange pinning combinations.
- Nese kicks out at two from a Michinoku Driver!
- Nigel McGuinness ponders what next for Alexander if he loses again tonight?
- Nese UPPERCUTS Alexander off the top rope as he tries to springboard!
- Chestbreaker for 2 by Nese.
- Nese tells Alexander 'Your championship reign meant nothing!'
- Springboard Trouble in Paradise by Alexander!
- Spanish Fly!
- Nese gets his foot on the bottom rope to break the count!
- Alexander is furious.
- Nese leg sweeps Alexander on the apron, who landed badly on his neck.
- Tony Nese reverses the lumbar check!
- Alexander slaps the shit out of him in response!
- Nese holds on to the rope as Alexander attempts to lift him for the lumbar check.
- The ref breaks his grip.
- Alexander remonstrates with Charles Robinson.
- Nese slaps the shit out of Alexander!
- German suplex into the buckles by Nese!
- Nese running knees!
- This is awesome chant!
- 450 splash by Tony Nese!
- NESE WINS!
- Commentary state this is the biggest win in Nese's career.
- Alexander looks forlorn in the ring.
- First off, if you aren't watching 205 Live, do it! These main events deliver on a weekly basis. They get given TIME and they smash it out the park. A reminder that this main event was 15 minutes long, compared to the 10 minutes that Buddy and Cedric got in Australia. This match was brilliant in-ring, gives Tony Nese a much needed win and gives us plenty of potential with the Alexander character. We saw him hair pull, aggressively boot Nese in the corner for a four count and remonstrate with the ref. All things we wouldn't have seen from happy-go-lucky champ Cedric. Whether it ends with a return to his former self in a redemption story or arcs into a heel turn, there is interest and intrigue there for me and I loved it.
