NXT UK RECAP (Ep. 34)

Writer's picture: WSBFWSBF

By Ross Casey

Walk and talk interview with Sid Scala and Johnny Saint. We know which does which here, right? Scala says that tonight we see the debut of Kay Lee Ray and a main event between Gallus and WALTER & Pete Dunne. HUGE!

Vic Joseph welcomes us to Kevintree, wherever that is, it must be close to Coventry!

FLASH MORGAN WEBSTER v WOLFGANG (W/ THE COFFEY BROS)

Despite being nearly half the size of his opponent, Flash attacks with a frenzy at the start, landing a jumping knee and multiple strikes at pace. Wolfgang struggles to stop the whirlwind until he catches a moonsault attempt from Webster and then hits snake eyes and lariats him in two!

I love that McGuinness says Andrews (Flash's partner) has faced Wolfgang multiple times and has talked to him at length about tactics. Great touch.

Flash gets grounded through brute strength from Wolfy. He points at the fallen Webster as the crowd boo. Flash battles his way back into contention though, landing a springboard dropkick, two topes and a somersault senton to the outside! The crowd love it.

Flash then attempts a wrap around ringpost head scissors, but he gets caught and gets posted. That's a game changer! FORGET THAT. He then POWERBOMBS him into the post and follows up with ONE ONTO THE APRON.

He rolls him in - hits a cool new finisher called the Caber Toss and pins him!

I was certain that I was going to have to write that those post and apron bumps should have resulted in a loss, but Webster kicked out... so I am very happy to report that those devastating three moves in a sequence got the job done.

Really enjoyed that. Webster showed fire, but the strength and brutality of Wolfgang proved too much. Post match Wolfy continues the attack on Webster and then gets in the fans faces. This is brilliant for Gallus. They need to be malicious and beating up loved superstars on the NXT UK roster. Looking forward to more of this side of them.

WINNER - WOLFGANG

KASSIUS OHNO PROMO

This was very interesting. We see footage of Ohno's NXT stint which has been underwhelming to say the least. He says that he realised he wasn't appreciated there and it was time to move onto something new.

He is the guy who has been wrestling rounds matches in Europe for years and whilst the crop of UK guys are talented - they are all copycats. They all watched WWF as kids and don't wrestle the way British wrestlers should.

They have been handed an opportunity to show the world their countries wrestling style and they aren't. So Kassius Ohno is here to show them.

This is super interesting to me. He is basically Jim Cornette bringing back NWA to WWF in the 90's. A huge part of me agrees with him, too. Great heel work!

AMIR JORDAN & KENNY WILLIAMS v TYSON T-BONE & SAXON HUXLEY

The misfit duo of Williams & Jordan are out first and during their entrance you can see they are not quite on the same page, with Williams refusing to Bhangra dance with Amir. Their opponents are also misfits. They appear to be on the same page, however.

Somewhat surprisingly, both Jordan and Williams get the upper hand against Huxley to begin the match. That brings in T-Bone who is not amused. Jordan manages to use his pace to outwit T-Bone too, but a distraction from Huxley puts him on the back foot.

There is a sloppy bit where Huxley appears to be unsure of how to pick up Jordan for a slam, but that kind of makes his character work. He's a bizarre savage that can cover botches through claiming it's character work. Love it.

T-Bone tags in and his snug, stiff moveset looks brutal and gets the crowd invested in cheering for the outsized Jordan. He fights back and thanks to an enziguri, gets the hot tag to Kenny!

Williams, easily the most exciting in-ring guy in the match is perfect for this spot as he flips. flops and flies around the ring clearing house, tagging in Jordan to hit the Swanton for the win!

Post match Williams teases doing the dance but thinks better of it. Save it for a Takeover, lad!

WINNERS - AMIR JORDAN & KENNY WILLIAMS

JINNY INTERVIEW

Jinny takes umbrage to the fact the first question from Glen Joseph was about Toni Storm. Get this straight - she doesn't care about Toni Storm. The only thing she cares about is the NXT UK Women's Championship.

Because that demands being the centre of attention - and the only woman on this roster deserving of a spotlight is her. She asks for a better question, but half way through it, Jinny says why don't you ask Toni and walks off.

SHE IS QUEEN.

EDDIE DENNIS PROMO

He faces Ligero next week, a man he respects. However, he is in the wrong place at the wrong time because now he is out of his exile, he has vowed to dismantle the roster one by one - starting with Ligero.

NOAM DAR IN RING PROMO

Noam Dar is out to a good reaction from the crowd. McGuinness says that Dar reminds him of a young George Best. I like it! Dar says it is great to be back in NXT UK and this time... he is here to stay! Massive cheers and Supernova chants from the crowd to that news.

Whilst he has been away with 205 Live showing the WWE Universe his many, many talents he has been keeping a close eye on the UK brand. It has been doing pretty, pretty good (nice Curb reference, Noam) but will get better when it debuts in the best part of the UK - Glasgow, Scotland. ROUND BOOS for that!

The contract has been signed, Dar is not here as a special appearance, not like when Mark Andrews got dropped on his head by the champion on 205 and got sent packing back on his skateboard...

Out comes Andrews! Dar attempts to reason and then ATTACKS! Andrews is wise to it, ducks and hits an enziguri, so Dar powders.

Bloody hell this was excellent. This is the best I have seen of Dar in the mic. Ever. He was composed, funny and smug. I loved it. Great heel turn. Should have seen it coming when he was wearing that polo neck.

CANDYFLOSS v KAY LEE RAY

Yikes, they have put Kay Lee Ray against Candyfloss - that pretty much confirms that she will be a heel! Let's see how she wrestles her debut...

Like most Candyfloss matches, we get some crisp grappling to begin - before KLR decks her with a forearm stopping those niceties. Yup, she's a heel, alright!

KLR works the arm using the ropes for leverage as the innocent Candyfloss screams out in pain. This is good stuff from the debuting Ray. Candyfloss gets a two count via a roll up, so KLR responds with some savage kicks as Candyfloss is on the floor.

WOW. She hits a WALTER-esque chop on Candy that really wakes the crowd up, then follows with a superkick and Gory Bomb for the three count.

That was a dominant win and sets up KLR as a heel. Success!

WINNER - KAY LEE RAY

WALTER & PETE DUNNE v THE COFFEY BROTHERS

Mark Coffey starts and gets done over by both Dunne and then WALTER. He chops the Austrian a few times and then tags in his brother. Cheers, then!

They lock up, Joe tries to ground things but WALTER will have none of that and drops him with a shoulder tackle, then tags in Dunne who immediately works the arm. We then get what we all tune in for... CHOPS TO THE SCOTS!

They brawl to the floor; WALTER & Dunne take control of matters and then go face to face in the ring. Intrigue. Will these guys get along for the entirety of this match?

Mark blind tags in and cuts off Dunne with a German. Joe and WALTER brawl to the floor, and then isolate Dunne. They work him over in the corner, working quick tags. Dunne battles back with a German and Joe stops the tag.

WALTER tags himself in and that spells trouble for Mark. Joe joins in and they hit a doomsday device for two as Dunne makes the save! They do love each other, really!

Mark slaps WALTER, but it only fires up WALTER, who Germans the brothers and covers for two. Mark stuns WALTER off the ropes - what on earth was he doing up there?

Joe slams Dunne onto WALTER, which causes them both to argue, but they don't take their eye off the ball for long and WALTER hits a big boot and powerbomb on Mark to win the match.

I love that as it gives WALTER the win - showing Dunne his potential destruction first hand and then post match we got a great shot of WALTER stepping on the title as Dunne attempted to pick it up.

Top stuff.

WINNERS - WALTER & PETE DUNNE.

This was a really fun episode featuring good wrestling and lots of character development across the board. I hope you enjoyed the read!
