NXT UK Recap (Ep. 29)

Writer's picture: WSBFWSBF

By Ross Casey

We get told from commentary that tonight Mark Coffey looks for retribution against WALTER after he booted his brother out of the ring at NXT UK: Takeover Blackpool. That should be a bit of fun hoss action!

MARK ANDREWS v LIGERO

- This should be an interesting match up as two high flying faces face off in the opener!

- We start the match with some quick and smooth grappling from both men, with clean reversals and counter reversals.

- Ligero ties himself up and puts on a pin attempt when Andrews attempts to untie him. Trickery from the Leedsonian Luchador!

- The pair trade rolling one counts before both getting to their feet. Lovely ovation from the crowd, who are entertained. They fist bump as a show of respect for one another.

- Andrews catches Ligero as he goes up top and lands a hurricanrana off the turnbuckle!

- Ligero attempts to hit a flying head scissors on the outside but Andrews cartwheels out of it!

- Ligs lands a somersault senton off the barrier onto Andrews outside!

- Stomp 182 and a mad twisting standing moonsault for 2 from Andrews!

- Knee slide enziguri by Andrews! Bloody love that move. He needs to play air guitar as he slides, though.

- Stundog millionaire by Andrews! YOU DON'T SUPLEX ANDREWS.

- Ligero rolls to the outside for safety - but Andrews responds with a somersault plancha!

- Ligero attempts a top rope hurricanrana, but Andrews flips through it and LANDS ON HIS FEET!

- REVERSE RANA FROM ANDREWS!

- SHOOTING STAR PRESS FROM ANDREWS...

- KNEES UP!

- C4L!

- LIGERO WINS!

- Post match, Andrews offers another fist bump to Ligero, who accepts. A battle in the name of competition, this was short, sweet and fun. Recommended viewing.

PETE DUNNE BACKSTAGE

Radzi catches up with Pete Dunne backstage and asks for his thoughts on the debut of WALTER. Dunne says that he saw it and it was impressive. He is certain that they will cross paths at some point - but when they do, he will find out why he has been WWE UK champion for over 600 days. Dunne fears nobody,

- YES Pete. Probably going to lose that match though, isn't he?

XIA BROOKSIDE v CANDYFLOSS

- Yet another face v face match here! Where all the heels at tonight?

- We get a respectful handshake at the beginning of the match.

- Candyfloss locks in the headscissors, but Brookside handstands out of it. She then offers her hand to Candyfloss to get her back to a standing position. Heel commentators of the past would be spitting feathers...

- They both land quick two counts from pinning combinations and then say to each other that they can't get it done like that.

- Candyfloss unleashes her inner Warlord and applies the full nelson three times! Each time, Xia figures a way out.

- Brookside synches in an armbar.

- Candyfloss lands two moves, but Xia has wrist control and retains momentum!

- Candyfloss with an armbar now - including bending the fingers and the wrist! Things just got savage!

- Now she stomps down on the angled arm of Xia! Quite the vicious side of Candyfloss being seen here!

- Xia gets a head scissors and lands a Brooksy Bomb out of the corner into a bridging pin...

- XIA BROOKSIDE WINS!

- This match was a lovely exhibition of how well these two young women (still only 19 and 20 remember) have been trained. What a nice throwback to a forgotten era!

- Post match, they embrace as commentary put over Xia's first win.

- Post-post match former champion Rhea Ripley attacks both wrestlers with relish!

- Post-post-post match, Toni Storm arrives to make the save but accidentally headbutts Xia - leaving her to get a Riptide from Rhea Ripley. Nice. The women's division is looking healthy...

WILD BOAR v JOSEPH CONNERS

- This is a fun way to describe a match from the commentators. The black soul of Conners v the black eyes of Wild Boar. Which dark force will win out?

- Conners comes out swinging with clubbing blows to the back of Boar.

- Boar cuts him off with a clothesline though...

- Back senton from Boar. VINTAGE BOAR!

- Conners whiplashes Boar's arm into the top rope!

- He then strikes him from behind on the outside. BOO.

- Conners sends Boar throat first into the apron.

- Joseph Conners trash talks to Boar as he has him in a submission hold. 'YOU ARE NOT TAKING AWAY MY OPPORTUNITIES.'

- Wild double ax handles from Conners!

- Boar battles back and with Conners balanced on the second rope, he lands an inverted senton that looks like it snapped Conners in half!

- FROG SPLASH FROM THE APRON ONTO THE FLOOR BY BOAR! "His mum's a frog, his dad's a boar."

- Boar goes for a spear in the corner but misses!

- Springboard DDT for 2 by Conners!

- Again trash talk from Conners - 'YOU ARE NOTHING - I'M TAKING OVER THIS PLACE.'

- POP UP POWERBOMB BY BOAR!

- SUNSET FLIP POWERBOMB OFF THE TOP INTO A SUNSET FLIP POWERBOMB INTO THE CORNER!

- DON'T LOOK DOWN!

- JOSEPH CONNERS WINS!

- I must admit I entered this one with a bit of trepidation, but Conners has increased his moveset and is working at a faster pace than before and this was a low-key banger. The fact the crowd were not invested is a symptom of neither really doing much on the brand, but as as standalone match this far exceeded my expectations. Great stuff, lads.

JINNY INTERVIEW

Jinny tells Radzi that when his face looks the way it does, he needs a better wardrobe to take people's eyes off it. She is sick of Toni Storm getting in her way and it is only a matter of time before the real queen of NXT UK is crowned...

- My word, Jinny is sassy!

JOE COFFEY v ASHTON SMITH

- Joe Coffey is attempting to box Smith at the start, whilst Ashton is trying to ground Coffey with headlocks in a frantic game of cat and mouse.

- POUNCE from Coffey, who sends Smith out of the ring!

- Joe Coffey then hits a front tackle onto Smith on the outside, sending him into the railings.

- After sending Smith back in the ring, he synches in a nerve hold.

- Smith battles out but then gets caught in a bear hug.

- Smith battles out of that too, but gets drilled with an overhead belly to belly!

- Pop-up uppercut by Coffey!

- Smith finally gets some offence in with a dropkick - he fires up and hits a BIG superkick!

- He attempts a springboard dive, but gets caught...

- GERMAN SUPLEX!

- ALL THE BEST FOR THE BELLS!

- Well that was an extended squash! Coffey is made to look like a complete badass here, I love his intensity. He still believes that this is his Kingdom... despite his loss to Pete Dunne in January.

WALTER v JOE COFFEY

- The brave Mark Coffey attacks WALTER at the bell.

- He ducks the first chop attempt from WALTER - wise, that.

- Didn't duck the second. OUCH.

- WALTER takes a trick out of Sheamus' book and nails clubbed fists into Coffey's chest as he is wrapped up in the ropes.

- Mark Coffey manages to turn the tide, though and lands some strikes and a grounding submission.

- Coffey is in a submission now, but reaches the ropes and lands a blow to WALTER, despite the fact we could have had a clean break. BOO THAT MAN.

- Mark tries to Irish whip WALTER, but he can't do it. The Austrian is simply too big!

- MASSIVE LARIAT by Coffey. WALTER does not budge. Holy shit!

- He asks for more!

- Ask and you shall receive... Coffey is laying them in but WALTER is walking through them!

- German suplex!

- Heluva kick in the corner!

- Walter puts Coffey over the turnbuckle and then stands on his throat. Bloody hell!

- CHOP!

- Sleeper hold is blocked by Coffey...

- Flying volley to the face by Coffey!

- CHOP TO THE BACK BY WALTER!

- DROPKICK BY WALTER!

- POWERBOMB!

- WALTER WINS!

- There's a new man in town and his name is WALTER! This was a great match, with Mark Coffey impressing, whilst WALTER remains the one to surely take the title from Dunne.
