NXT UK RECAP (Ep. 18)

Writer's picture: WSBFWSBF

By Ross Casey

No green screen start this week - straight to the rabid crowd in Plymouth! Vic Joseph lets us know that it's one on one in the main event though, as Travis Banks looks to get his hands on Joe Coffey!

TONI STORM v CHARLIE MORGAN

A big reception for Toni Storm from the crowd, this is her first appearance since losing to Rhea Ripley in the tournament final and injuring her back in the process. She seems happy to be back! Literally zero reaction for Morgan, they obviously don't follow Pro Wrestling EVE.

- A genuine show of sportsmanship to begin with a handshake. Last time that happened on this show, Fabian Aichner turned heel. Don't do it, Charlie!

- They grapple for position, but Charlie ends that with a big slap to the face of Toni!

- Storm smiles, hits three strikes of her own and then knocks Morgan down with a big boot. GE. HER. ATTENTION.

- Missile dropkick for one by Storm.

- STF by Storm! Actually wrenches it on, unlike the bloke you can't see.

- Step up enzuigiri by Morgan!

- Strong strikes followed by a camel clutch by Morgan.

- Toni Storm manages to power out...

- BIG German suplex from Storm! Morgan flew halfway across the ring!

- HIP ATTACK IN THE CORNER!

- STORM ZERO! (The Tyler Driver 97 one)

- TONI STORM WINS!

- Morgan didn't really get a lot in here, but that wasn't the purpose of this. She worked the injured back a bit though, which I appreciated. Storm looks a star like usual - can she rack up the wins to be in contention for a rematch with Ripley?

FLASH MORGAN WEBSTER & MARK ANDREWS v GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS

Now this should be good - the fun charisma of Webster and Andrews against the moody Northerners Gibson and Drake. GYV have matching shorts on. Big fan of that!

- If you hate Gibson stand up chants from the crowd. There is something magical about getting under his skin live. Highly recommended.

- Andrews and Gibbo start the match and they grapple with Gibson in control, but Andrews uses his speed and escapability to dodge and dive his way into gaining the momentum.

- Andrews tags in Webster and the pair land a double hip toss and a double inverted diving moonsault on Gibson!

- Gibson shows his superior strength over Webster by pushing him into the corner, so Drake is able to tag in. He immediately hits the Grit Your Teeth forearm!

- Webster lands the Rude Boy Block!

- Flash goes up top to follow up, but Gibson throws his wrist tape at him, providing a distraction. C'mon Flash, it's only tape!

- Alas, he is distracted and Drake takes control with the springboard double team backbreaker to the outside.

- Gibson tags in and slows things down with a headlock.

- He tags in Webster who hits ANOTHER forearm. Ouch. Webster needs a tag...

- Drake again wears down Webster with his version of a chinlock. The crowd are vociferously singing that he has his own face on his arse.

- Gibson tags in and goes for a suplex - Webster flips out of it. He tries to get the tag but Gibson cuts him off. I love tag wrestling! It's all hopes and fears.

- WEBSTER GETS THE TAG!

- Andrews springboards over Drake and lands a hurricanrana on Gibson! Now that's how you kick off your hot tag!

- Kneeslide under the double clothesline and then lands a double Pele kick!

- Blind tag by Gibson... Grit Your Teeth dropkick in the corner by Drake followed by a ticket to ride by Gibbo. This is really kicking now!

- Webster tags in and lands a SLOPPY reverse rana on James Drake. Not sure the man from Blackpool really fancied it. And to be honest - who can blame him?

- Gibson breaks up the pin at two as Joseph remarks that Webster may not have gotten all of it. Lolz.

- Gibson brilliantly drags Drake to his corner and tags in. What a bloody bloke.

- HEADBUTT by Webster! Comical spaghetti legs from Gibson...

- Webster tags Andrews who goes to the top rope, Webster goes for his version of Destino on Gibson, but he gets caught and gets lawn darted into Andrews on the turnbuckle!

- Enziguri by Drake on Webster and Gibson dumps him outside the ring!

- They both try to suplex Andrews... DOUBLE STUNDOG MILLIONAIRE!

- You don't suplex Andrews!

- He goes straight up to looking for the shooting star press...

- But he sees Fabian Aichner push Webster into the ring steps again!

- Andrews hits the tope on Aichner, just as Aichner was about to add the running knee. He made the save for his partner and lands a flurry of punches!

- Back in the ring Gibson tags in.

- Andrews has no idea as he has been pre-occupied and lands the shooting star press on Drake - who he thinks is the legal man!

- He goes for the pin but Joel explains he isn't legal... Gibson slides back in the ring...

- SHANKLY GATES!

- ANDREWS TAPS!

- GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS WIN!

- Post match Aichner attacks Andrews before Webster makes the save.

- Quite a lot to break down here. But it was very good. The faces would have won if it wasn't for a mixture of Aichner and Gibson being a clever bastard. A big win for GYV and now Aichner needs backup in his feud against Andrews and Webster. Wonder who that could be?!

NINA SAMUELS v KILLER KELLY

Quite an interesting match here as commentary mention that neither woman has won a match on NXT UK so far, so in the words of James, this is the battle of the goobers...

- Killer Kelly charges to begin, but Nina evades her and then flicks her hair in Kelly's face. Haha. No manners, these girls from Fleet!

- Kelly attempts to German suplex Nina in retaliation, who reaches the ropes and demands the ref breaks things up. I like this a lot. Antagonistic heels are the best.

- Nina cartwheels away from Kelly and then shoves her face! You are asking for trouble, Nina!

- Kelly laughs - and then strikes with forearms!

- Samuels rolls out to the apron, ducks a strike and then snaps Kelly's neck backwards on the top rope!

- Samuels hits a snapmare and then a running snapmare straight after. Curt Hennig approves.

- Nina then ties Kelly up in the ropes and hits a dropkick to her back!

- Full nelson by Nina.

- Kelly slips out and hits a suplex into the corner!

- BASEMENT DROPKICK!

- Samuels kicks out!

- Kelly looks like she is going for a Perfect Plex - she bloody loves Perfect - but Nina grabs her braided hair and rips it! Kelly screams in pain and is thrown into the top turnbuckle.

- AA ONTO THE KNEE!

- NINA SAMUELS WINS!

- That was a great showing for Nina Samuels - great character work and she looked the more accomplished wrestler too. It's official, Nina Samuels is not a goober.

FABIAN AICHNER INTERVIEW

Radzi says that whilst Aichner's interference cost Andrews and Webster their match, they had the last laugh over Aichner. Fabian is selling his injuries and says that he won't allow them to win the tag titles, because he wants them himself - so he is off to find a partner.

- Aichner is great and Radzi is great. Look at those faces!

JOE COFFEY v TRAVIS BANKS

Commentary mention that Mark Coffey and Wolfgang are absent. McGuinness offers the viewpoint that as the leader of Gallus, he is possibly looking to lead by example. For me, again though, I want to see Gallus constantly use their numbers advantage. What a theme, however.

- Banks attacks sat the bell, laying in kicks and strikes.

- Travis Banks chases Coffey to the floor and hits an apron PK. They continue to battle, and banks looks for a suicide dive, but Coffey cuts him off and slams him shoulder first into the barricade. A lovely throwback to the Albert Hall.

- Back in and Coffey focuses on the bad shoulder of Banks, grounding things and then locking on a full nelson.

- Coffey is relentless on his attack of the shoulder, keeping things grounded, and staying focused on it. Banks tries to fire up with kicks, and takes Coffey down with a desperation knee strike.

- Banks follows with a corner dropkick, shining wizard, and covers for two.

Coffey back to the shoulder, and the pop up powerslam follows for two.

- Banks fights off the German, but Coffey hits a spinning overhead belly to belly for two.

- Coffey takes Banks up top, Banks fights, and head butts him away and hits the double stomp!

- The standing double stomp and suplex follows for 2. Banks knocks him to the floor, and hits the suicide dive.

- Back in and Banks goes up top, and hits another double stomp and that gets two.

- Banks goes for the slice of heaven but misses!

- SPEAR BY COFFEY!

- ALL THE BEST FOR THE BELLS BLOCKED!

- BUT IT HURTS THE BAD SHOULDER!

- ALL THE BEST FOR THE BELLS!

- JOE COFFEY WINS!

- I loved this. Coffey was ruthless in attacking the bad shoulder of Banks, just like he was in targeting the bad knee of Seven in his win over him. Don't wear padding against Joe Coffey - it's a red rag to a bull!!!
