NXT UK RECAP (Ep. 16)

We start the show off with a split screen backstage of our main event competitors Eddie Dennis and Dave Mastiff warming up, looking intense. Big fight feel! Love it.

ASHTON SMITH & LIGERO v GALLUS

Man, I love that new Gallus song. I think it's a bit of a shame that Joe isn't out for this one. I quite like the fact they usually use the numbers advantage...

- Double dropkick by Ligero and Smith - but it can't floor Wolfgang!

- Ligero goes for the Tornado DDT very early... Wolfgang catches him and dumps him outside. Better luck next time, Ligs!

- Mark Coffey is tagged in to boos, he ignores them and beats on Ligero outside the ring with punches and strikes, before lobbing him back in.

- The aggressive, no nonsense attack continues in the ring before he tags Wolfgang back in.

- Wolfgang carries on in that vein, with ground attacks and strikes. He takes Ligero into their corner, opens him up in a full nelson and allows Mark Coffey to take the free shot at the defenceless Leeds Luchador. BOO.

- Mark is now in the ring and works a grapevine on Ligero for quite a while before tagging Wolfgang back in. This is spectacularly unspectacular from the heels. I am loving it. They are wearing down Ligero, who hasn't had a sniff since being dumped out of the ring a few minutes back.

- Mark Coffey grabs Ligero by the horns! Fantastic heel work. He then lays in the bearhug. The crowd aren't getting behind Ligero now at all - until Wolfgang screams 'I can't hear you anymore, Plymouth!'. What a man, it gets the crowd back involved and is a signal to Ligero to begin his comeback.

- Ligero fights out of the bearhug! He elbows Wolfgang on the outside - who comes in and falls out of the ring after missing a clothesline and then evades Coffey, to make the diving tag to Smith!

- Smith hits dropkicks on both members of Gallus and then lands a BIG jumping clothesline on the legal man, Mark Coffey!

- Springboard back elbow for two by Smith - he is on a roll!

- SUPERKICK! Smith has the win but Wolfgang pulls his legs with the ref at two, breaking up the count. Damn you, Gallus!

- With Smith leaning on the ropes shouting at Wolfgang, Ligero springboards over his own partner to take out Wolfy on the outside!

- O'Connor roll by Smith for TWO AND A HALF!

- He gets up but walks into a step up enziguri that floors him!

- GALLUS WIN!

- Commentary question... who can stop Gallus?

- I really enjoyed this. The heels worked a great match by isolating Ligero, giving the fans plenty of chances to get behind their heroes and also worked the crowd too with their body language and taunting. Excellent win for them, whilst Smith in particular got to shine thanks to his hot tag.

NXT UK WOMEN'S TITLE MATCH ANNOUNCEMENT

NXT UK GM Johnny Saint and his able assistant, Sid Scala bring Rhea Ripley and Isla Dawn together to announce to them and to us that next week, they face off in Rhea's first ever title defence. I would have liked a bit of interaction between Scala and Ripley here as they have an interesting chemistry, but a simple stern warning of 'See you next week' was probably more appropriate for this segment. Nicely done.

GALLUS BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW

Radzi explains that their win over Ligero and Ashton Smith earlier on was utterly dominant. He asks them if it will be enough to impress GM Johnny Saint. The Scots are incredulous at that question!

Mark Coffey says that he and Wolfgang just set the standard for tag team wrestling on this brand and they will be the next champions. Joe Coffey then adds that Gallus don't just win.., they take. He will rip the NXT UK title from the mouth of Pete Dunne - but first he's squashing Travis Banks like a bug.

I loved that. Their aggressive manner put Radzi at unease and he sold their viciousness well, too. Love that bloke.

JACK STARZ v JOSEPH CONNERS

- Lockup to begin, but Conners goes straight to the ear again as he has done several times already on this brand. An ear for an ear!

- An ugly backbreaker by Conners! That looked vicious!

- Conners than lays in three STIFF forearms to the back of Starz!

- Conners wraps Starz around the ringpost and bends Starz' back horribly from the outside.

- He then goes back in the ring and lands a dropkick to the back of Starz. This is an intense beating!

- Starz finally gets in some offence with some stiff European uppercuts and then a dropkick.

- DOUBLE STOMP in the corner ends any idea of a comeback, though!

- SUNSET FLIP BUCKLE BOMB!

- DON'T LOOK DOWN!

- CONNERS WINS!

- Loved this match. I miss squash matches - this got me more interested in Conners than anything else he has done for a long time. His theme is a banger, his intensity was good, his moveset was stellar and he came off legit. Brilliant.

T-BONE TYSON & SAXON HUXLEY PROMO

This was a REALLY well made promo, equal to or better than anything the WWE produce on Raw or Smackdown. And it was for a thrown together tag team in Huxley and T-Bone. I love how random that is. T-Bone thinks he has found someone as vicious as himself, Huxley spoke in riddles, which fits him perfectly.

JINNY v XIA BROOKSIDE

- Xia Brookside attempts to shake the hand of Jinny, but the Fashionista boots it away!

- Leg scissors by Jinny, looking to squeeze the life out of Xia from the off.

- Xia breaks free by doing a headstand. Great WoS spot. She then dances in the face of Jinny.

- They lock up again and Jinny takes control of the arm, also digging in the point of her elbow into the shoulder of Xia.

- Brookside does a great job of selling the arm, screaming in pain.

- Xia backflips out of the arm control, only for Jinny to deliver a STIFF forearm to her face.

- Hurricanrana out of the corner from Xia, followed by a dropkick and a flying crossbody off the second rope for two!

- Fashion disaster into the second turnbuckle by Jinny!

- Brookside suffers some aggressive stomps from Jinny after the frustrated Fashionista can't put her away...

- Ridgeway kick by Jinny!

- Jinny then utilises a submission on Xia but the plucky teenager rolls through and escapes!

- Brookside lands a flying head scissors AND a double knees to the back in the corner.

- Xia attempts to go for a pendulum variation, but her back gives way...

- TOUCH OF COUTURE!

- JINNY WINS!

- This was a good match with a bit of a flat finish. Both girls worked really hard and I enjoyed the clear face and heel dynamic.

DAVE MASTIFF v EDDIE DENNIS

- Mastiff's gonna kill you chants from the crowd...

- Dennis utilises headlocks to begin - he tries to shoulder barge Mastiff down, but The Bomber is simply too big to budge!

- Mastiff hits a front dropkick to Dennis! Love how agile he is for a big man.

- Elbows to the side of the jaw of Dennis. So far, the Welshman can't find a way to hurt Mastiff.

- Running crossbody from Mastiff! Like getting hit by a truck!

- Mastiff MISSES the big senton as Dennis rolls out of the way.

- Dennis calls the ref to start the count. Trying to win by count-out. I love when heels try that. A win is a win in their book. No such thing as pride or honour - just ego.

- Mastiff tries to get back in the ring - but eats a big boot from Dennis.

- Dennis calls for the ref to start counting again!

- ANOTHER big boot on the apron! This time Mastiff stay on his feet and Dennis looks SHOOK.

- Dennis takes the match outside, beats on Mastiff and throws him back in the ring, before telling the crowd to shut up.

- Dennis synches in the cravat, slowing down the big Mastiff.

- Mastiff powers out with forearms, but misses his charge in the corner...

- Dennis targets the neck again, hitting heavy blows before going back to the cravat.

- AGAIN, Mastiff powers out with forearms, before felling Dennis with a BIG headbutt!

- SUPERPLEX by Mastiff!

- Both men slowly make their feet and then embark on a forearm duel...

- Neither man goes down, so Dennis tries to bounce off the ropes, only to get caught with a Finlay roll by Mastiff.

- The Senton LANDS this time, but Dennis does well to kick out at two.

- Bridging German suplex for 2 by Mastiff!

- Dennis CATCHES Mastiff in mid-air! How has he done that? He lands spinning slam for 2!

- Eddie cowers in the ropes, only to cheap shot Mastiff when he looks at the ref!

- Dennis gets Mastiff up for the Severn Bridge, but he escapes... he can't escape the spinning clothesline though. Big Dave kicks out at 2!

- Release German suplex by Mastiff!

- CANNONBALL!

- MASTIFF WINS!

- Dave Mastiff wins the battle of the undefeated streaks on NXT UK TV. That was a hard fought match that the crowd stayed with and really enjoyed. Dennis tried to win the cheap way by countout, and use some underhand tactics, but it wasn't enough to beat The Bomber. What next for them both now?
