It is a new set of tapings at THE Full Sail University.
I believe Adam Cole has a celebration planned. Vanessa Bourne and Aaliyah laid out a challenge to Mia YIm, what else is happening tonight? I don’t know.
SHOCK the SYSTEM. Here come the Era with new yellow shirts. FRG has a good spot for this set of tapings. He is booing loudly at the Era. Good job FRG. I’m with you.
Adam Cole is on the mic. There are a lot of cheers for him. There's some boos as well. Come on the boos. Cole says he told us this would happen, they will remake NXT as undisputed. He plays a custom Undisputed Era NXT tron. It’s pretty good to be fair.
Kyle ‘just a little something I threw together last night’. Brilliant. Cole tells the other champions to shine the titles up as he wants them looking nice for his boys. When they have all the gold no one will be able to touch them. Not the locker room, not Regal, and even Triple H.
Dream interrupts. He says ‘Adam, no-one can touch you. I’d like to touch you’ He says the Era isn’t the reason for NXT success. The Dream is. Roddy starts making a play for the North American Title when BROOOOOO hits.
He tells Strong he beat him and he beat Adam Cole. Cole tries to comeback, but Riddle cuts him off and tells him he knows he’s good looking and a stallion. No arguments.
Cole says no. Riddle is jealous. They’ve all been champions and he hasn’t. He tells Riddle to go back to writing online reviews of wrestlers from the attitude era. Newsflash. That era is over. Your era will never come because you’re living in the Undisputed Era.
Out come Tyler Breeze. Is this a Raw opening? I swear if this ends in an 8 man tag then Vince has finally started watching NXT. Tyler doesn’t care about the Era, he doesn’t care who’s the best looking, but he says it’s him. He cares about the Era taking credit for a brand he created. Main event is the three of them vs 3 of the Era tonight.
It was a page out of Raw’s playbook, but it worked and was one off, so I don’t mind it so much.
Next week - Steel cage match - Shayna Baszler vs Io Shirai
Raul Mendoza vs Damian Priest
Mendoza is coming off a win over Riddick Moss. This is Priest’s debut under this gimmick, formerly appearing as Punishment Martinez. Priest gets a pretty large entrance and he decks Mendoza out of the gate. The match is a lot of Mendoza countering and avoiding Priest with impressive speed and elusiveness. The height of this being a run across the ropes into a kick. He then gets caught going for a dive and slammed on the apron (it’s allegedly hard). Followed by a big kick and then a twisting cutter sees Priest victorious on his re-debut.
This was pretty quick, but enjoyable whilst it lasted.
William Regal announces the NXT breakout tournament. Summary - The performance centre is backed as we have pilfered the Indies and we have too much talent to feature. There will be an 8 man tournament for people yet to appear on NXT TV and the winner will get a Championship match.
The competitors are
Jordan Myles - formerly ACH - Yeah he’s good
Boa - ?
Cameron Grimes - formerly Trevor Lee - He’s charismatic.
Isaisah ‘Swerve’ Scott - formerly Shane Strickland.- Ain’t nobody. Like Shane Strickland. Yeah. He’s good.
Dexter Lumis - formerly Sam Shaw. Never seen him, was he in Z for Zachariah? Will anybody get that reference?
Bronson Reed - formerly Jonah Rock
Angel Garza - formerly Humberto Garza
Jaquin Wilde - formerly DJZ.
It’s a strong group. That should be a pretty good tournament.
Mia Yim package. Nice feature on Yim’s history. How she grew up in the middle of conflict in LA and how her background played into who she is now. She calls out Shayna at the end telling her she’ll be the hell and high water.
That was really good, NXT do a good job incorporating the stories of their stars into these video packages.
Taynara Conti vs Xia LI
Two members of the roster who have had a couple of opportunities and one of them should pick up a win today. Last time seen, they were tagging. Today I expect to see some kicks!
Shake hands at the start and we begin with submissions and reversals. Li with a cascade of kicks that Conti avoids. Taynara says Latina’s do it better and hits a cool bicycle kick.
After Xia kicks out she just punts her in the back. The friendly demeanour is gone from Taynara now and she aggressively goes after Xia Li. Conti misses Li in the corner and Li with a sweep kick then a combo of kicks to the face. Li springboards over Conti out of the corner and then hits this awesome spin kick where she misses the first attempt but just carries on with a second that puts Conti down for the 3.
Nice little match. Loved the aggression and trash talk from Conti and Li’s kicks are an exciting arsenal. Good outing for two of the lesser featured members of the roster.
Street Profits vignette. They’re still celebrating, but next week they have to take on the Forgotten Sons. Video of them riding past the fans on top of a car. FRG is there. He gets a close up and a line. Go on FRG.
Next week
Io vs Shayna - Steel cage
Forgotten Sons vs Street Profits
Jaquin Wilde vs Angel Garza
Should be a good show that.
Here comes the BRO. Again they make reference to his outspoken Twitter. Are they going somewhere with that? He’s joined by Breeze and the Dream.
Matt Riddle, Tyler Breeze and Velveteen Dream vs Undisputed Era
Dream and Breeze argue about who is going to start so Rids takes charge. K.O.R is getting the night off for the Era. Riddle all over Cole from the start. Showing his superior mat skills until Strong distracts Riddle and the Era get the upper hand. Not for long tho as Riddle hits a couple of gut wrench suplexes on Strong and Dream comes in. Dream and Fish go at it for a bit and Dream hits a Kedavra where his knee looked to land right in Bobby’s face.
Bobby gets the tag to Cole and Breeze comes in clocks him a bit and back in comes Riddle and he continues to dominate Cole culminating in a ripcord knee. Everyone is in and the faces fight them off leaving Riddle once again with Cole, Two splashes, exploder suplex and the Broton leave Cole reeling. Kyle distracts the ref and Fish cuts off Riddle mid flow and Cole gets to Strong.
Here comes the backbreakers as Roddy in control. Riddle in the Era corner as they utilise quick tags to keep him isolated. Riddle fights back and lifts Cole up for one of his suplexes but Cole counters into a backbreaker. Nice.
Riddle back in the Era corner. Fish’s right eye is starting to close from that stray knee of Dream. Cole takes out Dream and Breeze and Rids fights back with palm strikes. Cole stamps on his foot. Hits a delayed superkick to the knee and comes off the top, straight into a BIG KNEE.
Tyler gets the hot tag. Flying around taking out all the Era. Beauty shot on Fish, but makes the cover near the ropes and Roddy drags Fish out. Dream blond tag on Breeze who doesn’t like it.
As they argue Cole super kicks Riddle off the apron, but eats a double super kick from Breeze and Dream for his troubles. Jumping knee to Breeze who falls into Dream. Strong with the End of Heartache to Dream and IT IS OVER.
Strong with the big pinfall win over the North American champ,
The Era stand tall to end the show.
A decent show this week. Over half of the in ring action featured the 7 guys in the main event, along with an introduction for Damian Priest and a shortish match between Xia Li and Taynara Conti. Next weeks show looks very strong in ring as we begin the build for Takeover Toronto in two months time.
Stars of the Week
1. Bobby Fish - Gutting out that match after getting a knee to the eye
2. Matt Riddle - Standard performance from the Bro
3. Roderick Strong - Big win for Roddy as he looks set to go after the North American Title.
Montez Ford award
It was out of Xia Li and Taynara Conti for me, I'm giving it to Conti. They both impressed me in ring, but her in-ring attitude gets her the nod.
