Let’s give this 2-hour thing a go then. I want to get back to rambling about NXT every week.
25 mins later…. right I have finally found a way to get the first hour on my TV. Oh good. Just what I want on my TV. Triple H. He pulls back the curtain and shows us the crowd going mad.
I can see FRG from a mile away.
Mauro welcomes us to the show and out first is Io Shirai. They are now calling her the Joshi Judas. They bloody love an alliterative nickname don’t they. Who remembers Kofi’s brief stint as the Dreadlocked Dynamo earlier this year? Clowns. This match is basically the Women’s Main Event scene (minus Shayna). There are a couple of ongoing storylines in the match with Io and Candace feuding as well as the recent series which saw Mia Yim come out on top against Bianca Belair.
Io Shirai vs Candace LeRae vs Bianca Belair vs Mia Yim
Io Shirai is so good. She got whipped into the ropes and hit a Tiger Feint kick (619), then back heeled Candace in the head from the apron before springbaording in with a huge dropkick on to Belair in about 5 seconds.
OH rubbish. We get adverts in NXT matches now. Io moonsault takes everyone else outside and Mauro sends us to a break, we come straight back to a Tower of Doom.
Great spot here. Candace has Io in a submission, sort of hanging off her and Mia just boots her in the head to get her off it.
Spot after spot now. Awesome backbreaker from Io on Belair. Huge snap suplex from Candace on Io. Then Belair catapults Candace into the turnbuckle with venom. Code red on Bianca, Double Spear on IO and Mia Yim. KOD on Candace by Belair, Mia with Protect Yo Neck on Bianca. Io comes in destroys Candace. Goes up top for the moonsault but Mia throws her off onto Bianca on the outside. Candace Poisonrana and then the middle rope moonsault.
Winner: Candace LeRae - New number one contender.
As she celebrates the Champion and the Horsewomen meet her on the ramp.
Staredown -Shayna looking supremely confident whilst Candace looks wary of Marina and Jessamyn behind her.
I think that was a strong start to the show. Quick fast action. Beauty of a 4 way is you don’t need the rest spots and if it’s well executed its very slick. I think this was.
Candace is the only one who hasn’t lost to Shayna. So makes sense for her to get the shot. I can’t personally see her being the one to end the reign of the queen though.
Brief video on Adam Cole before the break.
Post ads - Keith Lee vs Dijakovic once again. Next week on USA
Riddle vs Dain promo video. They go in a street fight on the Network later. GO RIDS
Sean Maluta vs Cameron Grimes
Cameron Grimes is wearing a top hat. Has he been doing that for a while?
Oh, the match is over. Leaping double stomp from Grimes after 3 seconds wins.
More adverts. If I’m going to find this online, I’m expecting people to cut the bloody adverts out.
There is an advert for Modelo involving chainsaws with a please drink responsibly tagline. I’m advocating please use chainsaws responsibly. Ideally with no Modelo.
Damian Priest gets a little video package coming out of the adverts.
Roderick Strong vs Velveteen Dream
Dream is pretty toned down in his outfit today. Nothing absolutely ridiculous.
Dream has had a couple of bangers this year. Specifically, with Riddle and Murphy. I never think he is the best wrestler in a match, but he consistently has really strong matches, so I think he deserves some credit. Strong is super underrated and has one of the best offensive movesets in the company. Both of these guys are heels who get cheered.
Everything Roddy does is targeting the back. Also, backbreakers look freaking painful.
We’re now in the second commercial break of the match. Expecting the match to kick into fifth gear when we get back. So far it has been fine.
Strong ties Dream in the ropes and runs the ropes just elbowing Dream as he goes past. It is brilliant. Probably my favourite thing of this match. Which is decent anyway.
Long Stronghold and Dream gets to the ropes. The Crowd are really into this which makes it seem so much more important than WWE TV I’ve seen recently.
Out come the ERA to ‘support’ Strong. Dream gets drop toe holder into the ref. DVD on Strong. Takes out Fish, Takes out Kyle. Turns around into END OF HEARTACHE.
It’s over. 1-2-NOOOO what a kick out.
Another DVD. Dream up top. Kyle distracts the ref. Cole Superkicks Dream of the top rope. Another END OF HEARTACHE and it is over.
The ERA are draped in gold.
They celebrate as we move over to the WWE network.
The match was good. Nothing too special. Brilliant near fall on the first End of Heartache. Some people won’t like it as they hate shenanigans. I don’t mind it. It’s wrestling.
We join the network as the Era continue to celebrate on the ramp.
Out comes Pete Dunne.
Pete Dunne vs Arturo Ruas
I saw Pete Dunne have a banger with Cara Noir on Sunday at Progress.
Ruas has some nice offence here. He hit a cool looking rolling leg scissors. Some nice kicks and knees and they exchanged a couple of great looking forearm strikes.
Pete Dunne slaps Ruas in the chest a few times. With those Abs I expect that hurt Pete’s hadn’t more than Ruas.
Explosion from Dunne. Flip over the corner, Enziguri, German. Double stomp on both hands. Head kick. Another head kick. Explex. Gets a 2 count.
Brilliant cartwheel roundhouse from Ruas into a German with bridge.
Really liking this Ruas.
One kick too many from Ruas and Pete gets top mount. Snaps the fingers and it is over.
That was really good. Pete Dunne showing signs to returning to top form. Well just returning really. He’s not been on TV enough this year. Really enjoyed Ruas.
Dakota Kai preview
Here comes XIa Li. Another expert kicker.
Xia Li vs Aaliyah
Aaliyah and Vanessa out here without the Bianca Jackson jackets. Shame. No back pack either.
Xia Li is all pace and kicks. Right up my alley.
Xia looked to slip off the top but also catch Aaliyah with a big knee at the same time.
She then hits about 6 different kicks on to Aaliyah to win.
The spinning back kick is beautiful. And finishing it off with a Robinson special.
Xia is obviously still learning, but she has such a good array of kicks and energy. I think she will do well in the future.
Out to face Kushida is Denzel Dejarnette?
Imperium (minus Walter) are here to beat him up instead though.
Is this leading to a Kushida vs Walter match? I am interested in that.
The crowd chant for Walter. Imperium pose in the ring and here comes the Ring General.
F.R.G looks orgasmic as he walks past him.
Walter has a mic.
Kushida interrupts. He calls out Walter.
Kushida gets a few shots in on all of them and then he leaves.
Hello - Kushida vs Walter.
Oney Lorcan vs Lio Rush
Ok. This is a match I can get behind. Bloody love Lorcan.
Lorcan straight out the bat. Forever forearms and a blockbuster off the bat from Oney. Followed by a trifecta of Tope Suicidas from Lio,
FAST ACTION.
Speed vs Intensity.
Rush’s springboard Stunner is awesome.
Rush was on top with his pace, but Lorcan goaded him into getting involved in a striking exchange and took advantage. Targeting the knee and hitting big strikes whilst Rush tries to get scraps using his quickness.
This is bloody good now. Slaps, Spanish flies. FROG SPLASH
LIO RUSH WINS.
That was top stuff.
Killian Dain vs Matt Riddle
Street Fight. No slow start in this. These two hate each other and go straight into it from the start.
They fight in the back where the irony of the Forgotten Sons watching and not being involved is not lost on me.
Walter is sitting at some garden furniture and Riddle Knees Dain into the furniture. Walter gets up and puts the sleeper on Riddle. Imperium join in. Here come the Street Profits and Pete Dunne and everyone. Riddle and Dain head back to the ring followed by everyone. Some security pull Riddle off of Dain, so he starts taking them out.
The huge brawl continues. Dain is left in the ring on his own and hits a tope taking out half the roster to end the show.
As brawls go that was entertaining.
