Previously on 205 Live:
This past week at Elimination Chamber Buddy Murphy again proved he was “unstoppable,” with a victory over Akira Tozawa. It has been announced by GM Maverick that next week will begin an eight man tournament to decide Murph’s next opponent “at Wrestlemania.” (Surely he means on the Pre-show at about 11am right?)
Interestingly enough when both colour commentators were asked about their predictions for the tournament at the top of this week’s programme they both picked the Gym Bunny Tony Nese. I guess the 8 pack would be a sound bet in an 8 man.
TJP vs. Humberto Carillo:
Perkins is out first and he is very heavily tattoed on both arms all of a sudden. He now seemingly has more ink than a giant squid and his ring gear has been updated to match with a studded jacket and a graffiti style print on his tights.
Team Alliteration are out to continue to scout the rookie Humberto Carillo. They seem legitimately supportive of him as he hits all manner of manoeuvres. A highlight is Gulak coaching him to hook the leg from the outside.
Carillo wins cleanly, which is no big surprise given the fact that TJP has reportedly asked for his release this past week. The finish is the headstand split legged moonsault and a beauty, not much else to write home about in this opener. If you have any suggestions on what I can call the headstand split legged moonsault then please give us a shout; so far I’m going with the Garza Strip.
Promo Pourri:
The pre-tournament favourite and top weight Tony Neseis up first in PP this week. He sends it home with the use of repetition of the modal auxillary verb “will,” to show his certainty that he “will” win the tournament, win the championship and do it at Wrestlemania. Again I would have found his claims to be far more credible if he admitted it was going to be on the preshow at 6am Sunday morning in New York City (apparently the same time slot as the very popular Joey Janela’s Spring Break).
Up next are Mr and Mrs Opportunist Mike and Maria Kanellis. Sidebar: an idea for a new pre-wrestling game. Before you go to a live show watch a Kanellis promo. Every time they use the term “opportunity,” you knock back an ice cold jager bomb. I might give this a go on the @wrestlingshouldbefun instagram befgore our next takeover; it can’t work out any worse than Rev Pro, ATTACK and PROGRESS last week, where the instagram would suggest there were main events at all 3 of these shows but I just don’t remember them.
The Power of Love are hyping the idea that nee-Bennett requested this main event with Cedric Alexander because he has never wanted to take the easy way to success. It’s really more of a babyface promo, an interesting way to present Kanellis here as an underdog. I guess the local loves a fighter; loves a winner to fall.
We also get Drake Daivari on the stick before what looks to be an enhancement match, he’s doing anything to get some heat, notably belittling the New Orleans Saints to the Cajun Country crowd. He must think his match tonight will be a Brees.
Ariya Daivari vs. Johnny Lyons:
Daivari locks on the cobra clutch after a Pepsi Twist for a quick win. Nigel McGuinness accidently renames this finish The Million Dollar Reality on commentary and I’m definitely running with it from here on out.
The Victorian Bushranger Buddy Murphy is backstage outlining all the challenges he has overcome as the unstoppable juggernaut. He poses the rhetorical Question “Who is going to face me on the grandest stage of them all?” Again I can only assume he is referring to the pre-show at about 5pm on the Thursday evening before Wrestlemania weekend.
Mike Kanellis vs. Cedric Alexander:
Alexander has clearly taken a little bit of a dip in fortunes since his loss to the Ranga Rassler Down Under. Aiden English claims he has the 205 Live version of “The Yips.” I know a little something about it, I was playing table tennis earlier this week and my serving was worse than The Good Mixer at Halftime of Progress. I found the best way out of the Yips is normally to swing as hard as you can and hope for the best. Alexander seems to have taken this ideology to heart and these two work stiffer than a wedding dick for the majority of this one.
The match really kicks in to top gear between the two Ring of Honor alumni when the action spills to the outside. There’s a double yakuza kick on the apron and a spinebuster on the ramp from the founder of The Kingdom.
Maria gets involved and it’s enough of a distraction for a false finish. The referee counts three even though Alexander’s shoulder clearly comes up and as The Opportunist is celebrating Alexander recovers enough to hit the L-C-1-2-3. More fuel added to the Kanellis fire.
Next week begins our tournament and we finish tonight with the announcement of our first round matches for next week. Kalisto vs. Tony Nese and Brian Kendrick vs. Drew Gulak.
Until then lads, Drink lots of water and look after your mates.
